Bezos' Project Prometheus Nears $10B Raise at $38B Valuation
Jeff Bezos' physical-world AI lab Project Prometheus is closing a $10B round at a $38B valuation, led by JPMorgan and BlackRock – a 6× valuation jump in six months since the November 2025 seed.

$38 billion.
Here's the deal: Jeff Bezos launched Project Prometheus in November 2025 with a $6.2B seed round. Internal valuations from that time were rumored to be in the low teens of billions. Five months later, on April 21, the Financial Times broke the news: Prometheus is closing another $10B, this time at a $38B valuation.
That's roughly a 6× jump in half a year. And it's the biggest signal yet that Bezos is serious about his first operating role since stepping down as Amazon CEO in 2021.
What Prometheus actually is
Prometheus isn't another LLM shop. OpenAI and Anthropic build models that predict the next token from internet text. Prometheus is building models that understand physics: material fatigue, engineering tolerances, aerodynamic simulation – the stuff that decides whether a bridge holds or a rocket flies.
Think of it like this. Ask ChatGPT "will this bridge survive 25 years?" and it will write you a plausible-sounding answer. Whether it's correct is anyone's guess. Prometheus wants a model that simulates the material, weld joints, load distribution, wind, temperature cycling over time, and tells you "fatigue cracking begins around year 25.3."
This category has a name in the field: World Models, or Physical AI.
| Category | What it does | Notable players |
|---|---|---|
| World Model | Predicts world dynamics | Wayve, Physical Intelligence, Prometheus |
| LLM | Text-based reasoning | OpenAI, Anthropic, Google |
| Robotics Foundation Model | General-purpose robot control | Figure, 1X, Skild |
| Video Diffusion | Pixel-level video generation | OpenAI Sora, Runway, Pika |
Bezos has a reason to care. Amazon already runs the largest fleet of warehouse robots on Earth. Blue Origin builds rockets. Amazon's logistics network is one big physical optimization problem. A foundation model that natively reasons about physics would reshape every one of these businesses.
CEO Vikram Bajaj is a former Google X scientist who co-founded Foresite Labs in 2017. Under him, Prometheus has pulled 120 employees from OpenAI, xAI, Meta, and DeepMind. That's dense talent for a company that didn't exist six months ago.
The money
The new $10B round is led by JPMorgan and BlackRock, per Financial Times. Neither is a traditional VC – they're global asset managers. That matches a broader 2026 pattern where AI mega-rounds are being led by investment banks and asset allocators, not Sand Hill Road.
| Metric | Seed (Nov 2025) | Series A (Apr 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Raised | $6.2B | $10B |
| Valuation | Private (~low teens) | $38B |
| Lead | Undisclosed | JPMorgan, BlackRock |
| Headcount | Founding team | 120 |
| Hiring from | OpenAI, xAI, Meta, DeepMind | Expanding |
Combined, Prometheus has pulled $16B in under six months. For reference, xAI's cumulative raise from 2023 through early 2025 was around $24B. Prometheus is at two-thirds of that in a quarter of the time.
What "physical AI" actually means
Prometheus hasn't published a detailed roadmap. Job postings and patent filings hint at the direction, though.
The goal is to learn the probability distribution of physics the way LLMs learned the probability distribution of language – then simulate and optimize inside it.
The hiring pages mention fluid dynamics, FEA (Finite Element Analysis), CAD-aware reasoning, and robot motion planning. Translation: manufacturing automation, design automation, and autonomous system control.
Bezos' second vehicle
Both Bloomberg and the FT flag a separate detail: Bezos is also setting up a "manufacturing transformation vehicle" – a holding company that may raise up to $100B.
That's not a typo. One hundred billion dollars. If it clears, it would be among the largest standalone private vehicles ever assembled. Targets likely include EV production, robotic factories, and in-space manufacturing.
Read together, the structure looks intentional: Prometheus is the brain, the manufacturing vehicle is the hands. Design in software, build in atoms, all under one umbrella.
The wider frame
This isn't just "another rich guy funds AI." Drop it into the 2026 funding map and the pattern shows up:
| 2026 AI mega-rounds | Category | Raise |
|---|---|---|
| OpenAI | General LLM | $122B (Q1) |
| Anthropic | LLM + safety | $30B |
| xAI | LLM + social | $20B |
| Waymo | Autonomous driving | $16B |
| Project Prometheus | Physical AI | $10B (Series A) |
| Eclipse (VC fund) | Physical industry AI | $1.3B |
| Cursor | Coding agents | $2B ($50B valuation) |
Q1 2026 saw $300B in global venture funding; $242B, or 80%, went to AI. After the top-three LLM labs, the next stratum forming is Physical AI. Eclipse's $1.3B fund on April 7 explicitly targeted "physical industry AI" – same theme.
At $38B, Prometheus trades at roughly one-tenth of OpenAI's valuation. But creating that much enterprise value in six months is the signal. Capital is pricing in the next wave before the demos arrive.
What changes for you
Short term, not much. Prometheus has no public API and probably won't for a year or two. The first customers will almost certainly be Bezos' own companies – Amazon, Blue Origin – plus a few strategic partners.
Longer term, three things are worth tracking.
First, the job market. ML roles in robotics, simulation, fluid dynamics, and material science ML are about to get a lot more competitive. If you've been a "text-and-images" ML engineer, now's the time to pick up physics.
Second, the big labs are watching. Google DeepMind ships the Genie line of world models. NVIDIA has Cosmos as its Physical AI stack. OpenAI quietly repositions Sora from "video generator" to "world simulator." Everyone sees the category forming.
Third, Bezos now has a direct structural answer to Musk. Both men are assembling "software AI + robotic/space hardware" under a single controlling stack. Tesla+xAI+SpaceX on one side. Amazon+Blue Origin+Prometheus on the other. Related reading: Eclipse's $1.3B physical AI fund, xAI Grok 5 and Colossus 2.
The next inflection point for Prometheus will be a public demo. Whatever it is – a manufacturing simulation, an autonomous robot, a material design pipeline – expect it to reset pricing for the entire category when it lands.
